Families, Beginners Welcome!
Admission: $5.00 per person; $15.00 for a family
The Cedar Grange presents a good old Grange dance. These are the dances done in Grange halls throughout the country in past years, many of which are relatively unknown today. This is a family dance, and everyone is welcome. The dances will be taught as needed, by noted Northwest old time dance instructor and caller, Kappie Kappenman. Music will be provided by Vivian Williams, fiddle; Phil Williams, guitar; Terry Wergeland, piano, accordion; Allen Hart, banjo; and Lilyce Richards, bass - all "old line" players who grew up with these dances and are among the top old time dance musicians in the West.
Dances will include standard couple dances, such as the waltz, polka, schottische, two-step, and foxtrot, and the couple "pattern dances" that used to be common in Grange hall dances - the Boston Two-step, Rye Waltz, Heel & Toe Polka, Varsouvienne, Black Hawk Waltz, the Tuxedo, etc. There will be circle mixers, such as the Patty-Cake Mixer, Circle Waltz Mixer, Jolly is a Miller, etc. as well as square and longways set dances. All these dances that used to enliven Saturday nights throughout the country in Grange halls and community centers, providing great variety and fun that anyone can do.
